Yo!
Last time I did some serious research was at university. That was when I was trying to get my MA degree. I started the research on May 1st, 1998. Yezzzz, that's a long time ago, please don't remind me too much!
During my research, I kept a journal in my research-scrap-book-thingy.
I found a couple of really fun things like talking to Extince who was in a really bad mood that particular evening in Doornroosje, meeting with DJ Kipsky, seeing Common twice in one week and an old interview with an 18-year old SpaceKees who's quite well-know nowadays.
One of the more fun (and also embarrasing parts) entries was this next one. I'm still kinda proud of the 'situation' actually, although I never got to meet him that time :(
Tuesday March 10, 1998:
Tony (my boyfriend at the time) and I just woke up. It's almost 11am. The phone rings. I get up, thinking it'll be my mother. It's KEES DE KONING! He's responding to my letter (yes, no emails back then peeps!!) I'd send to VPRO radio. I'm flabbergasted and I really don't know what to say anymore. It's just too early in the day and I really didn't expect this phonecall. Kees gives me his phonenumber so that I can call him whenever I want to go to Amsterdam to catch up.
I hang up and walk to the bedroom. Wow, I just had Kees de Koning on the phone! Tony doesn't know what hit him. He starts rattling on about it the rest of the day; "Shit, how's that possible, Kees de Koning gave us a call".
My day is already really complete! I can't wait to start telling people.
Well, isn't that funny? I thought so.
I have to appologize right now though! Sorry Kees for never calling you back. But after a while into the research, I had to change my subject area. I had to make it smaller, so I ended up with just Nijmegen and surrounding places.
Anyway, it's always good to keep a journal during research. I'm going to do that this time as well, of course. Luckily it's going to be almost all digital this time around.
See ya next time!
Ciao and have a great evening :) xx
